I’m Andreea Dardea Tesdall, a makeup designer specialising in beauty, period, character makeup and prosthetics for film, television and commercials.
Makeup has been part of my life for many years, yet I still feel that spark of excitement when a new story begins. I love discovering a character—understanding their world, what they have lived through and how even the smallest detail can help tell their story.
There is something deeply rewarding about seeing a look come together. It might be the softness of natural makeup, the elegance of a period design or the complexity of a prosthetic effect. Each asks something different of me, and I love the patience, imagination and care that the work requires.
Some of the most meaningful moments happen in the makeup chair. It is a place for conversation, trust and quiet preparation before a demanding day. I care about how an actor feels as much as how the makeup looks, and I want each person to leave my chair feeling comfortable, supported and ready to step into their character.
I bring that same care to my team. Whether leading a department or collaborating with another designer, I value kindness, clear communication and the willingness to help one another. Long days and unexpected challenges are part of filmmaking; meeting them with calm, resourcefulness and a sense of humour makes all the difference.
Based in Romania, I have worked on international productions both at home and abroad, including in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Switzerland and Qatar. My experience includes projects featuring Willem Dafoe, Emily Watson, Colin Farrell, Christina Ricci, Jenna Ortega and Tilda Swinton. These experiences have shaped my craft, but it is the people, the shared effort and the lessons from each set that stay with me.
After all these years, I still find joy in the final moments before the camera rolls: checking a detail, making one last adjustment and watching the work become part of the story.
That feeling is why I love this profession—and why I give so much of myself to every project.
